About me

Annabel is the Research Communications and Events Manager at LSE Health, where she leads the Centre’s communications strategy, digital engagement, and events programme to maximise the impact and visibility of its interdisciplinary health policy research. She has worked in research communications in UK academia for over four years, previously serving as the Research Communications Officer at the Care Policy and Evaluation Centre (CPEC) at LSE and as Communications Coordinator at the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex, with a focus on knowledge exchange, policy engagement, and increasing the societal impact of academic research.

Originally from South Africa, Annabel draws on a broad professional background that includes policy engagement, management consulting, grassroots charity work, and academic communications. Her academic grounding in urban studies and inequality - combined with lived experience in a highly unequal society - shapes her commitment to inclusive, accessible, and meaningful research communications. She is particularly passionate about creating engaging pathways for research to reach policymakers, practitioners, and communities.

Annabel holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics and Geography from the University of Cape Town, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) with distinction and a Master of Arts (by Research) with distinction in Geography from the University of the Witwatersrand. She has published two journal articles based on her postgraduate research: one on how young people navigate Johannesburg’s unequal urban infrastructure through e-hailing, and another on the continued discrimination faced by domestic workers in apartment buildings.

She currently serves as a Board Trustee for YMCA Brighton, a local charity providing supported accommodation for people experiencing homelessness. Annabel is dedicated to bridging research and action, drawing on insights from South Africa’s informal and unequal settings to tackle today’s global challenges. At LSE Health, her work supports the translation of rigorous academic research into accessible, inclusive communications that inform policy, empower communities, and ultimately improve health outcomes for all.
