Dr Duncan Green

Duncan Green is a Professor in Practice in International Development, and Director of the LSE's Activism, Influence and Change Programme.

From 2004-24 he was Head of Research and Senior Strategic Advisor at Oxfam GB. He is author of How Change Happens (OUP, second edition 2024) and From Poverty to Power: How Active Citizens and Effective States can Change the World(Oxfam International, 2008, second edition 2012). While at Oxfam, his long-running From Poverty to Power blog was one of the most widely read in international development.
In recent years, he has moved from researching and writing about the 'what' of international development to thinking hard about the 'how'. How does change happen and, more importantly perhaps, how can individuals and organisations become more effective in bringing about the changes they seek? Based on his book How Change Happens, this work has developed into a well attended LSE Masters Course on Advocacy, Campaigns and Grassroots Activism, and a growing number of training contracts with the UN, universities, thinktanks, civil society organisations and others on the general topic of how to design effective influencing strategies.
