As one of the world’s top rated departments of geography, we welcome post-doctoral and research fellows to LSE’s Department of Geography and Environment. Post-doctoral and research fellows play a significant role in the department’s research environment, taking part in research activities while establishing their careers. 

We welcome applications for postdoctoral fellowships (from e.g. the British Academy, the Leverhulme Trust, EC MSCA). See the list and application deadlines below.

Competition for these fellowships is intense and will be evaluated by the Departmental Research Committee. In order to develop the strongest possible proposal, you are advised to contact a prospective mentor in the department well in advance of the deadline to discuss your project. There are internal deadlines to facilitate vetting by the Departmental Research Committee (see list below for internal deadlines).

ESRC post-doctoral fellowships

We welcome enquiries about the ESRC’s post-doctoral fellowship scheme.

Applications are submitted via the LSE Jobs e-recruitment system and the deadline to apply is 4pm on 23 March 2022.

Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships

For Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships, please send a draft application to by Friday 26 November 2021. It should include:

  • CV (max 2 pages)
  • Research details (title, fields of study, abstract max 100 words, details of current and past research max 250 words)
  • Detailed statement of proposed research. This should include aims, objectives, methodology and outcome (e.g. publication plans). It should enable the Department Research Committee and your referees to form an estimate of the scope and importance of your proposal. The methodology should be clear and explicit, comprehensible to a non-expert. Include any bibliographic references in full, including page numbers where relevant. This statement and the bibliographic references may not exceed two sides of A4.
  • Short statement of support from your mentor.
