Student community

How do we enhance your student experience?

At the Department of Geography and Environment, we believe that university is about more than just lectures and coursework — it's also about building a vibrant, supportive and inspiring student community.

We offer a wide range of student engagement activities that help our students feel connected and part of something bigger.

The following activities are open to all students:

Welcome parties

Kick off the academic year by attending our Welcome parties, where you'll get to know new students and staff over drinks and nibbles!

Lunchtime with a Geographer

Come along to informal lunchtime sessions with our Geography staff. Running throughout the Autumn and Winter terms, these sessions are a great opportunity to get to know our faculty better. Plus, there’s pizza!

Breakfast Club

Drop by for a hot drink and a pastry at our weekly Breakfast Club, held throughout term time.

Sports and wellbeing activities

We team up with the LSESU to bring you a variety of sporting and wellbeing events on campus. Activities might include pickleball, football, futsal, or stretch-and-mobility sessions.

Public lectures

We host a range of public events across topics relating to geography and the environment. Unless otherwise stated, our events are free and open to all.

Photography Showcase

Our annual Photography Showcase encourages entries from staff and students based on a chosen theme. Past themes include 'World Textures', 'Blue' and 'Cityscapes'.

Festive party

Celebrate the end of term in style with our Festive Party. It's a fantastic opportunity for students and staff to mingle before the winter break.

Winter Ball

Hosted jointly with the LSESU Geography and Environment Society, the Winter Ball is a special occasion not to be missed! The LSESU Geography and Environment Society runs a variety of events throughout the year and is open to all LSE students. Find out more.
