About me

I hold a PhD in Political Science and International Development from the University of Guelph (Canada). Working at the intersections of critical policy studies and decolonial feminist and development theories, I study feminist strategies within global development and the seemingly technical policy mechanisms that enable or obstruct them. Currently, I am constructing a long-term research agenda on planetary feminist solidarity in times of shared global threats.

My upcoming book discusses the impact of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Agenda 2030) on gender equality coalitions in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. Based on the insight of 200 experts across government, civil society, and United Nations institutions, I show how high-income “donor” countries erode global commitments to national ownership of development agendas. I therefore present feminist development agendas as geared not only at the implementation of existing policy commitments but also a more radical transformation of global development mechanisms.

I further explore the questions of national sovereignty in development cooperation in my project titled Cooperate or Perish: Tracing the Coloniality of Canada’s Frameworks for International Engagement. My analysis of Canada as an ongoing colonial project points to the legislative and operational mechanisms that breach the principle of self-determination through the government approach to international cooperation abroad as well as with the Indigenous Peoples within Canada. My work has been supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), and the University of Guelph.

Prior to joining LSE in 2023, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Ottawa’s School of International Development and Global Studies. My past practitioner roles include positions at the Canadian national council for international cooperation, the United Nations’ World Food Programme, and Serbian civil society. I serve on the executive committee of the Canadian Association for Studies of International Development (CASID) and engage with multilateral and civil society actors in the sector.
