Meet our speaker and chair
Charles A. Kupchan (@CharlesKupchan) is Professor of International Affairs in the School of Foreign Service and Government Department at Georgetown University, and Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. From 2014 to 2017, Kupchan served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European Affairs on the National Security Council in the Obama White House. He was also Director for European Affairs on the National Security Council during the first Clinton administration.
Peter Trubowitz (@ptrubowitz) is Professor of International Relations, and Director of the Phelan US Centre at LSE and Associate Fellow at Chatham House, Royal Institute of International Affairs.

This event is part of the America's Changing Role in the World lecture series organised by the Phelan United States Centre, which is taking place over the 2025-26 academic year. The next lecture in the series will be on 12 November on America adrift: the end of the east coast foreign policy elite.
