The European Institute to host Finance & Democracy Summer Workshop in partnership with new Huth Initiative at LSE, UC Berkeley, and Brown University
The Finance & Democracy Summer Workshop is a two-day intensive training programme in partnership organised jointly by the Berkeley Program on Finance & Democracy, the Rhodes Center for International Economics and Finance at Brown University, and the European Institute and Huth Initiative for a New Political Economy at LSE, which will be hosted at the LSE European Institute on 4-5 June 2026.
After two successful editions at Brown University, this year's workshop will bring together advanced doctoral candidates, postdoctoral fellows, and early career scholars at LSE for focused instruction and discussion on finance as a core dimension of political economy, democracy, and state power.

The summer workshop is fully funded for participants thanks to the generous sponsorship and organisation by the Berkeley Program on Finance & Democracy, ongoing support from the Rhodes Center for International Economics and Finance at Brown University, and support from the newly launched Huth Initiative for a New Political Economy at LSE, together with the LSE European Institute.
The first two iterations of the Political Economy of Finance Summer Workshop were a big success. After two years at Brown University, we’re delighted that UC Berkeley’s Program on Finance & Democracy is supporting a Europe-based third iteration. This year, the focus will be on finance and democracy, with instruction delivered by leading scholars in the field. An important aspect of the summer school is intellectual and professional community-building for young researchers from across disciplines.
