Ignacio is a PhD candidate in Economics at the LSE, where he received his MRes in Economics in 2022 and his MPA in Public and Economic Policy in 2019. Prior to starting his PhD, Ignacio worked as a pre-doctoral researcher at Bocconi University (IGIER), and as a policy economist at the European Central Bank (ECB) and at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). His main research interest are industrial development and the energy transition. He employs empirical and theoretical methods from the applied microeconomics, international trade, and spatial economics literatures to study firm dynamics, industrial policy, infrastructure, productivity, trade, innovation, and directed technical change.
His current areas of research include:

- Green industrial policy: China's development of its solar photovoltaics industry; Advanced market commitments for green innovation
- Infrastructure and industrialisation: Electrification and structural transformation in Ghana
