Azhar is a PhD student in economics at the LSE. He did his undergraduate studies in engineering from the Indian Institure of Technology. Prior to starting the PhD, he worked as a research assistant at the J-PAL and the University of Chicago on projects related to energy and environmental economics. He is interested in the political economy of development; how state capacity and policies interact with state welfare objectives.
