Autumn Term 2025

Film screening: Dahomey (Matti Diop, 2024)
18:45 , Tuesday 7 October, OLD 4.10 (Old Building)
As part of Black History month we are screening Mati Diop's film Dahomey at 18:45 in OLD 4.10 (Old Building), on Tuesday 7 October.
The film is a semi-documentary about the restoration of looted artworks to the West African state of Benin.
The screening will be followed by a talk and discussion on the political economy of reparations in the context of the film by researcher Tanita Lewis. There will be a social in the Economic History Common Room (Sardinia House) afterwards.

Pottery Café for students and staff of the Economic History department
Tuesday 11 November, 3-6pm, in the Economic History Common Room (SAR G12 and meeting room).
Everyone is invited to make an object from air-drying clay. No previous experience is necessary, just enthusiasm. We’ll provide materials, tools and inspiration, so come along and make something to brighten up your room or home, or give as a gift.
Free hot drinks and snacks will be available in the café area.

Department of Economic History End of Term Reception
Thursday 11 December, 2025,5.30-8pm, Shaw Library, 6th floor, Old Building
All students and staff of the department are invited to celebrate the end of term at our reception, with drinks and nibbles, including mulled wine and mince pies.
Winter Term 2026

Print with Lego
A free art workshop for students of the Department of Economic History
6-8pm, Tuesday 27 January 2026
SAR G.09 (Small meeting room)
Use lego tilesto make a design then apply ink and print it.
No previous printing experience or artistic talent required.

Board Games Evening
6.30-9pm, Tuesday 3 February 2026
CBG 2.06
Join us for an evening of board games. We have a great selection of classic and newer games, plus cards for the poker players. Snacks and drinks provided.

Print on fabric with Lego
A free art workshop for students of the Department of Economic History
6-8pm, Tuesday 10 February 2026
SAR G.09 (Small meeting room)
Using lego tiles you will make a design and use it to print fabric.
All materials provided but if you want to bring a garment to print on, make sure it's cotton.
