Study Economic History

Economic History is an interdisciplinary and evidence-based approach to the study of history. It uses concepts, theories and skills from a broad range of social sciences to study economic, social and political developments.
Our students explore fundamental questions such as the causes of pre-industrial growth, economic globalisation, why social and economic inequity has changed over time, how politics affect economic performance, changes to living standards and health, and financial crises.
Economic history combines the skills of the economist and statistician with those of the historian, political scientist and sociologist. As such students acquire wide-ranging, transferable skills that are sought after by employers. Graduates from all programmes go on to a wide range of careers including finance, law, consulting, NGOs and the charity sector, journalism, the Civil Service, and teaching and academia.
