Shanghai summer programme (CURRENTLY PENDING DUE TO COVID-19)

This 2-week programme is hosted by the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics with the support of Shanghai municipal government. It aims to enable professionals from London to better engage with modern China from a business, language and culture perspective.

Programme summary

The programme has limited places and will run from 29 June - 10 July 2020 (Trade & Finance) and/or 13 - 24 July 2020 (Real Estate and Entrepreneurship) at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. Participants will join the "Business Chinese Language and Business Culture Immersion Programme" and are granted with scholarship by Shanghai municipal government. The subsidy will cover some of the fees of tuition, lectures, field trips, culture workshops, part of the accommodation, and food. The two-week programme consists of lectures on China’s financial and economic issues, business Chinese language course, and business culture immersion.

If your scholarship is granted, you should proceed to making the below payment accordingly.

Fees to be made to CIBL:

  • Administration fee -  £60

  • Internet fee for 2 weeks on campus - £20

  • Accommodation - £700

Additional fees to be made individually:

  • International travel and visa fees

  • Travel insurance

  • Personal expenses in China

  • *Accommodation (if you arrange your own accommodation)


Applicants who are applying to the second stream of the programme must have proficiency at HSK3 or above.

Application steps

  • Choose the type of students (Choose "Short-term students" and click "Apply")

  • Choose "LSE 2 weeks summer program A, from 2019-7-1 to 2019-7-12" or "LSE 2 weeks program B, from 2019-7-15 to 2019-7-26" according to your own study plan

  • Skip paying the application fee on the page as this will be included in your total fee payable to CIBL

Selection results

The applicant will be informed whether his/her application has been successful or if he/she has been placed on the waiting list by the end of June.

Confirmation and payment

Successful applicants are asked to do the following within 7 days:

  • Confirm attendance on the programme

  • Make payment of all relevant fees

  • Submit copies of their passport, the CIBL information form and an e-version of a passport photo to Confucius.business@lse.ac.uk.
