Frequently asked questions

Chinese Language and Culture for Business London

What is different about this programme than the other CIBL programmes?

CLCB is a premium education programme at an affordable price.  Because of the support from Hanban to CIBL and the generous voluntary time from CEOs and business executives, we are able to offer this year-long executive programme with quality standard.

Our professional team has designed this programme to be systematic and structured for thorough executive learning.  The new elements of this programme include Saturday Business Masterclasses and intercultural communication & management training. The blended Mandarin learning approach, including face-to-face, online learning environment and mobile app technology will ensure that you are provided with individual and accessible learning options.

What can I expect to be learning in the intercultural trainings?

There are 3 main learning objectives:

1. Chinese communication styles (verbal linguistics; comparative self-awareness in effective communication)

2. Core values of Chinese relationships, particularly in business contexts

3. Business Masterclasses with CEOs and Executives who will share insightful personal experiences on their journey to success

You can expect to have an all-rounded understanding of the Chinese way of communicating and be able to apply that to your business relationships.

How long will it take for my application to be processed?

We aim at processing and confirming your application result within 2 weeks.

What will I receive at the end of the programme?

On completion of the programme, you will be receiving a certificate from LSE and HSK to acknowledge your achievement.

What are the Saturday sessions for?

We meet on the first Saturday of each month for HSK exam preparation and Business Masterclasses.  These sessions are a valuable part of the course where you will be able to connect with global CEOs, business executives, and receive intensive trainings from our programme directors

What can I do if I have to miss a class?

We understand there may be occasions where you would have to miss a class - not to worry!  We offer up to 6 catch-up sessions and you can do these sessions via Skype if you prefer.

Am I required to have a certain level of Mandarin to join the programme?

Not at all. The Mandarin aspect of the programme is taught across 6 levels. If you are not a complete beginner, we will arrange a language assessment for you to ensure that we place you to the appropriate level.

How many students will there be in a class?

We strive to create an interactive learning environment where students are comfortable to share thoughts and ask questions.  The maximum number of each class is capped at 15.

Is there any coursework?

Yes, there will be continuous assessments throughout the course to help you achieve your objectives.

What are the class times?

Weekly class runs from 18:30-20:30.  Saturday sessions run on every first Saturday of the month at LSE; in the morning from 10:00-13:00, you will have HSK-focused Mandarin class, and in the afternoon 14:00-16:00 you will have intercultural communications and management training (with Business Masterclass on several Saturdays).

What is the HSK classification?

The HSK is an international standardised exam that tests and rates Chinese language proficiency. It assesses non-native Chinese speakers’ abilities in using the Chinese language in their daily, academic and professional lives. HSK consists of 6 levels: HSK level 1 (beginner) to HSK level 6 (advanced).

How does the immersion study trip to Tsinghua work? Where can I find the itinerary?

The trip is a funded by scholarship from Confucius Institute Headquarters, Hanban. CIBL will apply for the scholarship on your behalf, and if the application is successful, it will cover your tuition fees, cultural tours and excursions while at Tsinghua. You will automatically be enrolled when you join the programme, but there is no obligation for you to take part should you prefer not to.

We will be releasing the itinerary according to each intake.  You are welcome to refer to our CIBL website for previous itinerary for reference.
