The Firoz Lalji Institute for Africa is pleased to offer two Creatives in Residence Visiting Fellowships for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The first fellowship is for an established professional with a track record of excellence in the creative sector in Africa to become a part of the intellectual and creative life of the Institute and LSE.
The second fellowship is for an early career creative who is working to break new ground with a new perspective and who would benefit from having the support of LSE to bring more attention to their work.
While the visiting fellowships are unpaid, the Institute offers appointed Fellows a place and space to undertake a creative project focused on Africa. The Fellows will have access to the Institute’s suite of support and programming to bring their Creative in Residence’s project to fruition, from start to finish. There will be opportunities to get involved at LSE, display their work at Institute events, meet other past and present Creatives in Residence, and be supported to apply for external funding from arts foundations. Fellows will be asked to deliver a lecture or seminar on their work during term time, write a piece for the Africa@LSE blog, and showcase their project to staff and members of the public towards the end of their fellowship.
To apply, please submit a CV and an example piece of work you’ve created or a link to the work. You will also need to provide a one-page outline of the project you wish to undertake during the residency and describe how the fellowship would help the progression of the project. Please include an explanation for why the Institute would be a suitable place for your project and how your work relates to the work of the Institute. Fellows will need to be in London for at least part of their fellowship.
Submissions open 1 July and close 31 July 2025. Successful candidates will be contacted in September.
Please email your application to Africa@lse.ac.uk
