Launch of The Forgotten Faces

The launch of The Forgotten Faces, a moving new publication rooted in a protest within Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya, took place on December 4, 2025.

The event brought poet and activist Peter Kidi and Victor Ndula, an internationally recognised political cartoonist, into conversation with Dr Rachel Ibreck and Mohamed Hassan, creating a space to reflect on refugee-led resistance, creative expression, and the politics of belonging.

Peter’s readings offered an intimate glimpse into stories of loss, hunger, silence, and resilience, while the publication itself also features a powerful cartoon by artist Victor Ndula, expanding its visual and emotional depth.

In introducing the booklet, Charlotte Brown, researcher at FLIA, said, "As you turn its pages, we invite you to listen closely, to reflect on what is being asked, and to consider how these voices might inform a broader understanding of displacement, protest, and belonging."

The event concluded with an engaging audience dialogue, drawing connections between research, lived experience, and the urgent need to centre refugee narratives within public and academic conversations.

We are grateful to everyone who joined, to honour the stories and acts of resistance that shaped The Forgotten Faces, and to Peter and Victor for sharing work that continues to resonate beyond the room.

Listen to the audio version of this insightful conversation and immerse yourself in the voices that refuse to be forgotten.
