Reception and Dinner Venue

On Monday, September 9, we will hold a drinks reception, followed by dinner, at The Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, a short walk from the Marshall Building.

Lincoln’s Inn is the largest and oldest of the four Inns of Court. The Inns of Court are the professional associations for barristers in England and Wales. They are thought to have emerged towards the end of the 13th century or early 14th century, when a papal bull prohibited the clergy from practicing in secular courts and the control of the King’s Courts was transferred from the clergy to professional judges. As professionally trained lawyers gained prominence, they formed guilds. The Inns play an important role in the education of barristers and in their oversight. Each Inn encompasses a set of buildings, including a great hall, a chapel, libraries, lawyer chambers and gardens.

Lincoln’s Inn is located on the East side of Lincoln’s Inn Fields (the largest public square in London). Its buildings are set in 11 acres of private gardens.

We will have dinner at the Old Hall. Entrance will be via the Crypt, where we will hold a drinks reception.
