Meet our speakers and chair
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (@NOIweala) is the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation. The first woman and first African to hold the position. She is an economist and international development expert with over 40 years of experience. She served as Nigeria’s first female and longest serving Finance Minister and was also the first female Foreign Minister.
Elizabeth Robinson (@profejzrobinson) is Professor of Environmental Economics and Acting Dean of LSE’s Global School of Sustainability. Elizabeth is an environmental economist working primarily on climate change and health, with a focus on food security and undernutrition, heat and worker rights, and the design of policies and institutions to reduce climate change emissions, protect the environment, and improve the livelihoods of resource-dependent communities.
Amartya Sen is Thomas W. Lamont University Professor, and Professor of Economics and Philosophy, at Harvard University and was previously the Master of Trinity College, Cambridge. He is also Senior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows. His research has ranged over social choice theory, economic theory, ethics and political philosophy and welfare economics. In 1998, he was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his work in welfare economics. Amartya is an Honorary Fellow of LSE.
Nicholas Stern is IG Patel Chair of Economics and Government and the inaugural Chair of the Global School of Sustainability at LSE. His forthcoming book A Growth Story for the 21st Century: building sustainable, resilient and equitable development will be published by LSE Press in 2025.
Amil Dasgupta is Professor of Finance at LSE and Director of the Financial Markets Group. He is Director of the Financial Markets Group and leads the Sustainable Finance theme of the Global School of Sustainability. He has a distinguished research track record in the areas of financial markets, institutional investors, and corporate governance and regularly publishes in top academic journals. He is a Research Member at the European Corporate Governance Institute, research advisor to the Reserve Bank of India, and academic visitor to the Bank of England.
