My research interests include the history and sociology of economics, the economic history of Latin America in the 20th century, and the political economy of late development.

My doctoral research historicizes state economic interventions in Latin America based on a historical analysis of the emergence of an economic technocracy in Colombia during the post-war period (c. 1948-1974). It analyses the professionalization of economics and the institutionalization of economic expertise in the state, two processes shaped by transnational exchanges with foreign universities, philanthropic foundations, and international financial institutions. In the future, I plan to broaden the geographical scope of my research to write a transnational history about the practices, functions, and effects of development planning and project evaluation in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. 

I am also interested in the intellectual history of development, which I have studied mainly through the work of Albert O. Hirschman on Latin America. In 2017, I translated into Spanish Jeremy Adelman’s biography of Hirschman, Worldly Philosopher: The Odyssey of Albert O. Hirschman (Princeton University Press, 2013).
