About

Imogen Hamilton-Jones is a Policy Fellow at LSE Cities. Her work focuses on city government innovation, climate politics and economic systems change in European cities.

Imogen is committed to working at the intersection of academic research, policy and practice in contemporary cities. An urban anthropologist, she brings ethnographic and participatory methods to research and engagement projects with European city governments and urban residents. Currently, this involves peer research with young people and policymakers on youth participation in London’s green transition, ethnographic study of the cultural politics of post-growth transitions in London and Barcelona, and, for our ‘Capacity Deep Dives’, research in partnership with city governments across Europe on how cities are innovating to meet the urban challenges of the 2020s.

Imogen was previously Research Fellow at the Centre for Urban Studies and lecturer in the Anthropology Department at the University of Amsterdam. Her work there focused on post-growth cities, the new municipalist movement and urban commoning in Europe, particularly in Paris and Amsterdam.

Before that, she worked for several years in London urban policy. She holds an MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Amsterdam and a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford.
