Sanam Naraghi Anderlini appointed Director of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security

The LSE Centre for Women, Peace and Security is delighted to announce the appointment of Sanam Naraghi Anderlini as Director.

Sanam Naraghi Anderlini is a globally recognised advocate in the field of women, peace and security. She has 24 years’ experience as a peace strategist working on conflicts, crises and violent extremism with a mix of civil society, governments and the UN. She brings global research, policy and practical experience in contemporary gender, peace and security issues to the Centre. She has numerous publications and the Founder and CEO of the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) that spearheads a network of women peacebuilders internationally. 

As (part  time) Director of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security, Sanam will provide intellectual and strategic leadership and develop the Centre’s policy-relevant research and cross-sector engagement, particularly with policy makers, practitioners and women peacebuilders in conflict-affected contexts globally.

The Centre for Women, Peace and Security, founded in 2015, is dedicated to research, education and engagement to promote justice, human rights and participation of women in conflict-affected situations around the world. Sanam brings unparalleled experience from civil society advocacy and activism to inform and develop the Centre’s potential for real world impact.

About Sanam Naraghi Anderlini

Sanam Naraghi Anderlini joins the Centre for Women, Peace and Security at LSE as Director on 2 December 2019. Sanam is the founder and CEO of the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) where she spearheads the Women’s Alliance for Security Leadership (WASL) comprising independent women-led organisations active in 40 countries, preventing violence and promoting peace, rights and pluralism. In 2000, she was a civil society leader and drafter of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security. She is the author of Women Building Peace; What they do, Why it matters and has been an adjunct professor at Columbia and Georgetown Universities.
