Thinking about your next career steps? Want to learn how you can use your General Course experiences to get ahead?

In this panel discussion, the first in this year's series of General Course Edge events, alumni of the programme will share their insights into how to make the most of your time at LSE and offer practical tips on marketing the experience to employers. Coming from a variety of sectors and industries, our panellists represent the diverse backgrounds and career destinations of General Course students.

Come along to find out how you can use your General Course experience to get an 'Edge' in competitive job markets.

Meet the Speakers:

Adil Khan (LinkedIn). Adil attended LSE’s general course in 2007-08 on a year abroad from Haverford College in the US, where he studied Political Science and Economics. Adil is a legal professional with experience supporting the delivery of advisory solutions to private and public sector actors around the world. My broad professional experience includes advising corporate clients on transactional matters, operational management in fast-growth start-ups and working with a range of stakeholders on progressive institutional reform.

Christopher Thurn (LinkedIn). Chris joined LSE from Kalamazoo College to study on the General Course in 2005-06. After graduating Christopher joined the investment bank Jefferies, leaving in 2008 to co-found a new capital markets boutique called ISM Capital. That business was sold to Stifel Financial in May of 2016. Christopher has since left and is the founder of Alacrity, a legal technology business that helps law firms become more profitable.

Nagehan Tarim Bell (LinkedIn) was a General Course student at the LSE in 2009-10. She loved the experience so much, she came back to the LSE in 2011 to complete her Master's degree in Political Economy of Late Development as a Vassar Maguire Fellow. The General Course made Nagehan realise she wanted to live and work in London, and she's called London home since then. After working as a management consultant in financial services and scaling up an insuretech company in emerging markets, she is currently the Head of Change at Flood Re, a joint initiative between the UK Government and British insurers.

Kate Grussing (LinkedIn) attended the General Course in 1984-85 within the Department of Economic History . After completing her degree in Economics and Political Science at Wellesley College, Kate joined Morgan Stanley in Corporate Finance in New York and then later London. She then pursued her MBA at the Tuck School at Dartmouth College. Kate then joined McKinsey in New York and then later London. She subsequently joined JPMorgan in London in strategy and business management and was the COO for European equities. Kate set up an award-winning search consultancy in 2005 called Sapphire Partners which is a leader in promoting diversity in senior leadership roles. She is a thought leader on human capital management and was awarded a CBE by the King in 2023.
