In this session, you'll have the chance to meet alumni who work in International Organisations and NGOs. You can ask the alumni about their day-to-day job, how they got into their role, and for any other career-related advice or tips they’ve picked up from their career journey so far.

This event will be particularly useful if you are:

  • thinking about the realities of a career in this area or a related sector
  • curious about the sort of work and responsibilities jobs in this area can entail
  • interested in finding out how utilising the experience of studying at LSE can be used to get ahead in this area
  • keen to build your connections

Meet the Speakers:

Laure Boissat (LinkedIn). Laure attended the General Course in 2016-17, focusing her courses on environmental policy and law. After completing her Master's in Biodiversity Conservation and Management at the University of Oxford, she worked for multiple animal welfare and conservation NGOs, such as the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and World Animal Protection, where she managed the Animal Protection Index - a tool comparing 50 countries’ animal welfare legislations and policies. She then was a sustainability consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for four years, where she supported public and private sector clients on issues ranging from ESG materiality assessments to developing net zero strategies. At present, Laure works for the FAIRR Initiative, a network of over 400 investors using their influence to help global livestock, fish and dairy companies build a more sustainable food system.

Carolyn Alesbury (LinkedIn). Carolyn attended the General Course in 2005-06, based in the Government Department and returned to LSE to earn an MSc in Human Rights in 2008-09. At the end of her masters, Carolyn moved to Washington, DC, where she began working for Save the Children US, initially as an intern. She has remained at Save the Children ever since, working on primary school education projects worldwide and in the US. She is currently a Senior Advisor of Basic Education, specializing in inclusive education for children with disabilities.

Kartik Raj (profile) attended the LSE’s General Course in 2000-01 on a year abroad from Middlebury College, where he studied International Politics and Economics. Kartik is based in Barcelona, where he is a senior researcher in the Europe and Central Asia division of Human Rights Watch, focused on poverty and inequality in the region. Prior to joining Human Rights Watch, he worked for nine years at Amnesty International on the European Union team on a variety of issues, including counterterrorism law, access to abortion, forced evictions, post-conflict accountability, and deaths in police custody. Kartik time at LSE consisted on a steady diet of cheese toasties and white coffees at Wright’s Bar.

We will continue to confirm speakers for this panel in the coming weeks.
