GENIAL – GENerative AI tools as a catalyst for learning

GENIAL was the first project at LSE looking at the implications of generative AI tools in teaching and learning. Launched in June 2023 as a focus group evaluating the efficacy of code generation tools in three undergraduate courses (ST207, DS105, and DS202; cohort of 58 students), it later evolved into a multidisciplinary educational research project involving 220 undergraduate and postgraduate students from four LSE departments.

The project produced a series of outputs, including journal publications and blog posts, presentations and talks inside and outside LSE, podcasts and radio interviews. GENIAL members are currently involved in a series of activities related to generative AI in teaching and learning across LSE.
