About me

Miro Born is a sociologist and housing researcher with a particular interest in social inequality. He is a Visiting Fellow in the Department of Sociology and an ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Methodology.

Miro’s writing has been published in several sociology and urban studies journals, including Urban Studies, The Sociological Review, Berliner Journal für Soziologie and city: analysis of urban change, theory, action. His article "The Long Shadow of Territorial Stigma" has been awarded the Best Article Award 2023 for the most innovative and agenda-setting article in Urban Studies. Miro is the co-editor of Intersectionality and the City (Routledge, 2025); his forthcoming monograph Social Ladders is under contract with Oxford University Press. Together with illustrator Irem Kurt, he also recently published a comic based on his research (anthonymiroborn.com/comic). Combining social theory with empirical work on housing and social inequality, Miro’s work has been supported by competitive funding from the ESRC, the DAAD, the LSE and the Fritz Thyssen Foundation.

Miro holds a PhD from the Department of Sociology, The London School of Economics and Political Science. His PhD research was a finalist for the German Thesis Award, recognising the societal impact of his work.Before joining LSE, Miro has taught and worked at Humboldt University of Berlin, University of Potsdam, and Technical University of Berlin. He is currently also affiliated with the Department of Sociology at Goethe University Frankfurt and the Collaborative Research Centre 1265 at Technical University of Berlin.
