The 13th Environmental Politics and Governance Conference

Date: 15-18 June 2027

Call for papers

The Environmental Politics & Governance (EPG) network invites proposals for papers at its 13th annual conference in London, United Kingdom. The conference showcases the world’s best emerging research on environmental politics and governance, offers authors valuable feedback on work in progress, fosters an international community of environmental politics researchers, and seeks to shape the future of the field.

The 13th EPG Conference is hosted by the London School of Economics and Political Science, with support from the LSE Global School of Sustainability, the Sustainable Social Policy and Welfare States Research Hub in the Department of Social Policy, and the Department of Government, together with King’s College London Department of Political Economy.

The conference will feature a single track of panels and poster sessions, with lively discussion of each paper. Participants read and comment on other participants' papers in advance of the meeting, and all participants take part in every session. It is not possible to participate remotely.

The conference also fosters social connections, offering ample time for casual conversation. Participants take all meals together, and evenings feature dinners and social events in central London. The conference opens on Tuesday evening with a public roundtable at LSE, followed by a welcome reception and dinner.

Paper proposals should be submitted through the online form here.

We will consider works in progress only; please do not submit published, forthcoming, or accepted work. Authors of an accepted proposal are expected to share the full paper with conference participants two weeks before the conference.

All submissions, including those by EPG steering group members and by colleagues at the host institutions, will undergo double-blind review. The conference organisers will rely on these reviews when setting the final programme.

There is no conference registration fee. LSE and King's College London will provide all meals during the conference. Participants are responsible for their own travel to London and their own accommodation. We have limited funds to support accommodation for early career researchers who would otherwise be unable to attend; if this applies to you, please say so on the submission form. Support requests are not shared with reviewers and do not affect the review of your proposal. Participants who can do so are asked to cover their own costs so that these funds can be directed to those without access to research or travel funding.

Both host institutions are in central London, within walking distance of each other. London is served by Heathrow (LHR) and Gatwick (LGW) airports, among others, with direct rail links to the city centre. Participants travelling from continental Europe may prefer Eurostar, which arrives at London St Pancras International; in keeping with the subject of the conference, we encourage low-carbon travel where practical.

International participants should check early whether they need a UK visa. Many visitors who do not need a visa, including most European and North American nationals, now need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling. We will provide formal invitation letters for visa applications on request once proposals are accepted.

Participants should plan to arrive by the afternoon of Tuesday 15 June 2027 and depart after lunch on Friday 18 June 2027. All participants are expected to attend the full conference, including meals and evening events, contributing to discussions and building a community of scholars.
