About Careers in Social Policy

Scholars in the department consider some highlights of their careers and how their research has directly engaged in knowledge exchange and engagement with non-academic audiences.

The current Head of Department, Professor Lucinda Platt, looks back on how she got into Social Policy, her career, research and policy engagement, and her plans for the future.

Dr Armine Ishkanian explores her research career that has focused on civil society organisations and social movements and how they engage with, contest, and seek to shape social policies through different forms of collective action.  Armine co-leads the Politics of Inequality research theme, which is based at the LSE’s International Inequalities Institute

Professors Tim Newburn and Paul Rock discuss with Dr Leonidas Cheliotis (Director of the Mannheim Centre for Criminology) their appointment by the Cabinet Office as Official Historians of Criminal Justice at the latter stages of their research careers in British Criminology.
