About

Dr Mobarak Hossain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Policy at LSE. His research focuses on inequalities, social mobility, sociology of education, and comparative education policy, with a particular interest in emerging and developing economies. He uses quantitative methods to examine these issues.

Before joining LSE, he was a Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, where he completed his DPhil.

His current research examines global trends in intergenerational mobility, cross-national structural changes and socioeconomic inequalities, educational achievement and skill formation, and the broader social and political consequences of educational expansion. He also studies how international organisations contribute to the diffusion of education reforms across low- and middle-income countries.

He currently serves as Associate Editor of European Societies and is a member of the editorial boards of Sociology, Comparative Education, and the British Journal of Sociology of Education, and is also Book Series Editor for the World Yearbook of Education.
