Food (Forum for Philosophy)

29 November 2021, 6:00 pm7:15 pm

Our relationship with food is as complex as it is long. It connects us with our past, our ‘home’, and with other people. Shopping for it, cooking it, sharing it, and eating it all have significance beyond meeting our basic nutritional needs. Food is importantly connected with hospitality and care, but it can also be a source of guilt and shame. Recipes can be a way of preserving traditions and passing along cultural knowledge, but access to food, and specific kinds of food, can also be a matter of socio-economic inequality. We explore the complex history, philosophy, and politics of food.
