Tevfik Murat Yıldırım is Professor of Political Science and Director of Graduate Studies at the University of Stavanger, Norway, and a Visiting Professor in Contemporary Turkish Studies at LSE.
He received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Missouri, specialising in comparative politics and public policy.
His research examines how citizens and political elites interpret and communicate information about the political world around them, and how these processes shape democratic representation. He studies the behaviour, communication, and media visibility of political elites, as well as how citizens form opinions and prioritise political problems. Across these areas, his work considers how social and political identities produce inequalities in voice, attention, and representation.
His work has appeared in the American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science, Electoral Studies, European Journal of Political Research, Journal of European Public Policy, Party Politics, Political Behavior, Political Communication, Political Science Research and Methods, and Public Opinion Quarterly, among others. He is the co-author of Political Stability, Democracy and Agenda Dynamics in Turkey (Palgrave Macmillan, 2020). He has held visiting appointments at Sciences Po, Collegio Carlo Alberto, the University of Konstanz, the University of Southampton, and the University of Texas at Austin.
