Thesis: '“Grown” Under Globalization: Accumulation, Dispossession, and the Making of ‘Oil Palm Fiefdoms’ in Indonesia'
My proposed doctoral project seeks to explain the conditions under which, and the mechanisms through which, economic globalization becomes an engine for the emergence and entrenchment of subnational authoritarianism in the contemporary Global South, rather than for its erosion. Empirically, it has currently landed on the palm oil industry in Indonesia.
