Richard Hutton

Richard Hutton is an active-duty officer in the United States Army and is studying as a full-time PhD candidate in International History at LSE. Richard's research focuses on British defence and imperial strategy in East and Southeast Asia in the interwar period. Richard is a graduate of the University of Richmond, where he studied history, and holds MAs in History from Georgetown University and the US Army Command and General Staff College. His previous research focused on US foreign and defence policy in post-independence Indonesia. He is studying at LSE by way of a US Army Fellowship, the Goodpaster Scholars Program, administered by the US Army School of Advanced Military Studies. Richard's studies at LSE are supervised by Professor Matthew Jones and Professor Antony Best. He is the happily married father of three small children.

Provisional thesis title: "The Threats We Face: British Imperial Defence and the Far East, 1925-1934."
