About

Matías Ciaschi is Senior Researcher at the Center for Distributive, Labor and Social Studies (CEDLAS), National University of La Plata (UNLP), Argentina. He holds a PhD in Economics from the UNLP. He is responsible for CEDLAS's sponsorship of the Global Estimates of Opportunity and Mobility (GEOM) database at the International Inequalities Institute, London School of Economics.

His research examines the causes and consequences of economic inequality in developing countries, with particular focus on intergenerational mobility, labor market dynamics, and how external shocks—such as trade liberalization and technological change—affect household welfare and long-term economic opportunities. He also studies how inequality affects economic growth and how households respond to economic shocks.

Matías has large experience consulting for major international organizations including the World Bank, OECD, IDB, CAF, and UNU-WIDER.

Broadly speaking, his research focuses on intergenerational mobility, labor markets, poverty and inequality, trade shocks, and technological change in developing countries.
