PhD Topic: The emergence of new organisational capabilities in an incumbent organisation

PhD Supervisors: Dr Lucia Garcia-Lorenzo and Professor Martin Bauer

Karin Ahlbäck is a scholar-practitioner conducting part-time PhD research in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science while simultaneously engaged in advancing the digital services transformation of a global engineering company. She is interested in how strategy and organisational change are realized in practice, and her PhD explores the practicalities of how new organizational capabilities emerge ‘on the ground’ in an incumbent organisation. Adopting a processual practice approach, Karin uses qualitative ethnographic methods in her research.

Previously, Karin worked as management consultant and project manager at McKinsey & Company, with focus on organisational transformations and agile organisation design. She holds a MSc in Organisational and Social Psychology from LSE, and a MSc (Technology) from Aalto University in Finland.
