Joel Russell

Joel Russell is a first-year PhD Candidate (Office of Health Economics funded) in Health Policy and Health Economics. His doctoral research examines the performance of England’s Cancer Drugs Fund (CDF) post-reform, specifically exploring: whether clinical uncertainty is resolved during managed access; whether the CDF is good value for money; and whether value-of-information analysis could guide decision-making in CDF appraisals.

Before joining LSE, Joel spent three years working at York Health Economics Consortium developing cost-effectiveness models for medical devices before moving to Bristol Myers Squibb, where he currently evaluates the health technology assessment challenges associated with pipeline cancer treatments. In his free time, Joel unwinds by playing chess, listening to vinyl, tending to his garden, and camping.

Joel graduated from the University of York with an MSc in Health Economics, and from the University of East Anglia with a BSc in Economics.
