Iva Tasseva is an Assistant Professor in International Social and Public Policy in the Department of Social Policy, LSE.
She joined the Department in 2020 as an LSE Fellow. Prior to that, Iva worked as a researcher at the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex, where she completed her PhD in Economics.
Iva’s research examines how tax-benefit systems impact income poverty and inequality across high-, middle-, and low-income countries and over time. She is particularly interested in how policies can be better designed to meet their goals, such as protecting household incomes and consumption against economic risks and reducing poverty. In a separate body of work, she studies the quality of income survey data that underpins much analysis of the income distribution, including the extent and structure of income misreporting, and its implications for key policy and research questions such as the measurement of poverty.
Iva also has extensive experience of tax-benefit microsimulation models for distributional analysis. Here, she has contributed to the development of the EU-wide tax-benefit model EUROMOD and the UK model UKMOD.
Iva’s research has been published in journals such as Public Opinion Quarterly, the Journal of European Social Policy, Review of Income and Wealth, The Journal of Economic Inequality, and The European Journal of Development Research.
