About
I am an LSE Fellow working at the intersection of international theory, political/historical anthropology, and postcolonial approaches to global politics. My research focuses on the entanglements of European racial violence, genocide, religion, and reparatory justice, with particular attention to how the intertwined histories of both colonialism and the Shoah shape the contemporary international order. I hold a PhD from Columbia University, an MA from the New School for Social Research, and a BA from the University of Cambridge.
I am currently completing a monograph, Politics After Reparation: German Settler Colonialism, the Shoah, and the Promise of Justice. Based on over a decade of ethnographic fieldwork across the United States, Germany, Namibia, and Palestine, the project examines how the legacy of Holocaust reparations and ‘Vergangenheitsbewältigung' informs present-day struggles for justice in the context of settler-colonial genocide. It argues that state-led reparations have largely failed to address enduring structures of European racial violence, and that reckoning with these legacies requires moving beyond conventional reparatory frameworks.
Alongside this work, I am co-developing the field of Critical Jewish International Studies with Dr Darcy Leigh, which interrogates how the figure of the “suffering Jew” has been mobilised—both politically and theologically—to stabilise the liberal international order. More broadly, my research examines the intersections of antisemitism, colonial racism, religion, and political Zionism, and my new project considers the legacy of philosemitism on the British far-right.
I have published in Humanity (winner of the journal’s 2023 best-article prize), Political and Legal Anthropology Review, and E-International Relations. My research has been supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation, the Free University of Berlin, Sciences Po Paris, and the Max Planck Institute for Legal History. I am an award-winning teacher, recognised with the LSE Students’ Union Inclusive Teaching Prize, and I am currently completing a PGCertHE.
