About
Dr Athanasios Tyraskis is an academic paediatric urologist and paediatric surgeon who focuses on complex rare congenital malformations such as bladder exstrophy, cloacal anomalies, and previously on rare anomalies of the liver including biliary atresia. He undertook his clinical training in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, Oxford University Hospitals, King’s College Hospital, and Children’s National Hospital (Washington DC, USA). Currently he is undertaking a Paediatric Urology Fellowship in Great Ormond Street Hospital. He received his PhD from King’s College London in cancer genetics.
Parallel to improving clinical care for patients and families with these conditions he wants to look beyond and understand the impact of rare anomalies on the healthcare system, costs of delivering different forms of care, and even impact on school performance depending on the care they have received. He aims to achieve this using large databases such as Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) and Education and Child Health insights form Linked Data (ECHILD).
