Catherine's position at LSE involves Co-ordinating Mandarin, Japanese and Korean provision. She is also Programme Director of the BSc International Relations and Chinese and UK Director of LSE Confucius Institute for Business London.

Currently, she is researching the implications of e-learning in foreign language teaching and learning. She is also interested in material development for teaching Mandarin as a foreign language. Catherine is the author of 'Mastering Chinese' for complete beginners of Mandarin which outlines a communicative and cultural approach.

In addition to her roles at LSE, Catherine is an executive member of the British Chinese Language Teaching Society, a school governor and a chief examiner at the Charted Institute of Linguists.

Expertise

Catherine's PhD research looks into speech acts exploring the linguistic and cultural differences in apology strategies used in UK and China covering intercutural and inter-language pragmatics with a comparative perspective.
