Dr Anna Valero

Dr Anna Valero is the Director of the Growth Programme and a Distinguished Policy Fellow at the Centre for Economic Performance; Deputy Director of the Programme on Innovation and Diffusion (POID) and an Associate of the Grantham Research Institute. She is currently serving as Industrial Strategy Adviser to the Chancellor Rachel Reeves, having served as a member of her Council of Economic Advisers in 2024-25. She previously sat on the Office for Budget Responsibility's advisory panel and was a member of the Economic Advisory Council set up by Chancellor Jeremy Hunt.

Her research is focused on the drivers of productivity and innovation in firms and regions, and in particular the role of skills and universities in explaining differences in economic performance. She also works on UK growth policy more broadly, with a particular focus on policies for environmentally sustainable and inclusive growth.
