Algerian Studies Master's Prize 2019

Society for Algerian Studies and LSE Middle East Centre

Congratulations to Cambridge University's Lillian Flemons and Oxford University's Charlie Hierons for their prize-winning dissertations!

The field for the inaugural Algerian Studies Master's Dissertation Prize was strong, but the judges were particularly impressed by Lillian's study of Algerian language policy, which won first prize, and Charlie's research into 2005's revision of the country's Family Code, which won second prize.

For Lillian Flemons' prizewinning work, the judges remarked it was an 'outstanding piece of work, not least in the range and type of sources that it draws on'.

Charlie Hierons', in turn, was 'an original, splendidly researched, closely argued and innovative dissertation'

Launched by the Society for Algerian Studies and the LSE Middle East Centre, this prize is aimed at Master’s students in the UK conducting research on Algeria. It is designed to encourage and celebrate outstanding research focussed on Algeria.
