We're looking forward to welcoming you to LSE with a range of activities and events.
On this page you can see our departmental event schedule for the main Welcome period, along with some other key information to get you started for the academic year.

Please note that, unless otherwise stated, all events in the Department of Methodology are for Methodology students only.
Some events are compulsory for new students - these are labelled. All other events are optional, but we encourage you to come along to as much as possible while you're getting to know each other, the campus, and London!
Master's Programmes Welcome Schedule
Campus Enrolment
Compulsory for new students
15.00-15.30 | Ground Floor, Marshall Building
Campus enrolment is where the School will check your official documents, including passport and visa. This cannot be done online, you must attend in person and you must have already completed online pre-enrolment. Once you have completed campus enrolment, you will be issued your LSE ID card, giving you access to the campus, teaching and services.

1:1 Programme Director Meetings
Various times | CON.1.07B (ASDS) or CON.2.06 (SRM), Connaught House
An introductory meeting with your Programme Director where you should discuss your course choices.
A Zoom link will be provided as a back-up option for any students who are unable to attend Welcome Week, but you should assume that your meeting is in-person if you are in London.
Book an appointment via Student Hub. Head to Bookings and search for Tom Robinson (ASDS) or Jon Jackson (SRM), then scroll to the relevant dates.
"Meet the Department" Introduction Session
Compulsory for new students

A quickfire introduction to each member of staff in the Department of Methodology. Find out about our faculty's research areas and which courses they will be teaching on in the 2026/27 academic year.
MSc Programmes Lunch
12.00-13.30 | Kinta Alley, Sir Arthur Lewis Building
An opportunity to get to know your peers and faculty over a light buffet lunch (provided by the department).

MSc and PhD Consent Ed Training

An educational session that explores issues around consent and how we can look out for one another and create a respectful and inclusive campus.

Part-time and commuting students coffee
11.30-12.30 | CON.1.07 Open Plan Area, Connaught House
Part-time and commuting students are invited to drop in to the department to meet each other and PSS staff. This is a chance to ask any questions specific to your circumstances and have a tea or coffee with students who may have similar schedules to yours.
Course Selection Drop-in Session
10.00-11.30 | CON.1.07 Open Plan Area, Connaught House
An optional drop-in session in which staff from the department will be on hand to help with any technical issues during your course selection.
Department of Methodology Welcome Reception
14.00-16.00 | MAR.8.19, Marshall Building
A casual party for the whole Department of Methodology: students from all MSc and PhD programmes, faculty, and professional services staff. Drinks and nibbles will be provided.
Methodology Graduates Panel - advice from recent students
14.30-15.30 | Online via Zoom (separate Zoom links for each programme)
A chance to meet and chat online with recent Methodology alumni. You may find it particularly helpful to ask about their course choices.

MSc and PhD Afternoon Tea

Come along to the department for tea, cakes and a chance to socialise with the PhD students you'll be studying alongside.
Methodology Student-Alumni Mixer
18.00-20.00 | Alumni Centre, Centre Building
A chance to network and socialise with your new classmates and former Methodology students alike. Alumni will be invited to help welcome you to the department and LSE.

Thames River Cruise and Pub
15.30-18.30 | Departing from London Eye Waterloo Pier
Join us for a 40-minute scenic boat journey along the Thames where you can take in some of the city's famous landmarks. If you'd like to carry on the afternoon, we will have a pub booked for some relaxed drinks afterwards.
Boat tickets and a drinks tab at the pub are paid for by the department. Please note that no food is provided by the department.

PhD Programmes Welcome Schedule
MPhil/PhD Campus Enrolment
Compulsory for new students
10:00 - 12:00 BST, PhD Academy LRB4.03
Compulsory event for all new MPhil/PhD students and visiting research students arriving on campus. Campus enrolment takes place in person, where we will check your official documents, including your passport and visa. Once you complete campus enrolment, you will receive your LSE Card, which gives you access to campus and on-campus teaching and services. More info here.

A guided office tour by the Department and Research Operations Officer showcasing resources and bookable spaces available to you during your studies, including the dedicated PhD office where your desk space will be allocated.
Department of Methodology PhD Welcome Induction & Lunch

12:30 - 14:00 BST, Connaught House CON 1.01
An opportunity to ask your Doctoral Programme Director and Professional Services Staff (PSS) any questions you may have about the programme, and to meet your peers as well as your supervisors.
Consent. Ed Training
Compulsory for new students
09.30 - 11.00 or 14.45 - 16.15 BST, Connaught House CON 1.01
The Consent. Ed programme explores issues around sexual consent, providing an opportunity for us to discuss how we can look out for one another and create a positive, respectful consent culture, where everyone feels safe on campus.
This session is mandatory for all students! Please choose either of the time slots for this session.

PhD Academy Welcome Round Table Discussion
14:00 - 15:00 BST, Hong Kong Theatre, Clement House
An induction session for all new research students hosted by the PhD Academy. You will receive an invitation to this panel discussion and learn more about your PhD journey at LSE.
PhD Academy Welcome Reception & Services Fair
15:00 - 17:00 BST, PhD Academy LRB4.03
A reception will follow the PhD Academy Welcome Round Table Discussion - this will be a great chance for you to meet and network with your fellow research peers. You will also be able to find out about various support services to help you throughout your degree.
