REMEDIS

About

The REMEDIS project has four objectives

Objective 1: To improve existing theoretical knowledge about the actual outcomes of digital interventions

Objective 2: To improve and to enhance existing media literacy and digital skills intervention strategies based on existing and emerging evidence

Objective 3: To adopt advanced methods, to develop and to validate instruments for evaluating intervention strategies

Objective 4: To produce evidence-based policy recommendations and to develop a user-friendly, customisable evaluation toolkit

In achieving these objectives, REMEDIS brings together leading international centres for research on media studies, communication sciences, psychology, pedagogy, educational sciences and sociology.

We are excited to share a series of short videos in which researchers from the REMEDIS project present their key recommendations for evaluating interventions aimed at improving media literacy and digital skills across Europe. Based on fieldwork conducted in six countries and co-creative collaboration with stakeholders, these videos highlight practical insights for policymakers, educators, and civil society actors working to bridge the digital divide. See the videos

Resources

REMEDIS have developed an evaluation toolkit which includes practical resources to enhance media literacy and digital skills across diverse communities. Developed within the REMEDIS project, this toolkit is free to use and provides research-based strategies, intervention models and evaluation frameworks.

Advancing Media Literacy & Digital Skills Interventions: Recommendations for Stakeholders

This report supports policymakers, educators, NGOs, civil society organisations, and intervention designers in strengthening their media literacy and digital skills (ML&DS) initiatives through evidence-based insights and practical guidance. It presents a synthesis of findings and recommendations from the REMEDIS (Rethinking Media Literacy and Digital Skills) project.

Synthesis of evaluation studies of media literacy and digital skills interventions

This report details the REMEDIS findings for Media Literacy and Digital Skills (ML&DS) interventions, where before and after measures were available. [2]

Evaluating Twelve Media Literacy and Digital Skills Interventions

REMEDIS employed pre- and post-test designs to assess 12 media literacy and digital skills (ML&DS) interventions across six European countries (Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Spain and the UK). Pre-tests measured sociodemographic data, digital skills, media literacy and expected uses and outcomes. Post-tests, both immediate and delayed, assessed similar metrics to gauge changes resulting from the interventions. Since every intervention and evaluation was unique and different evaluation measures had to be used, this report presents the findings separately for each intervention. Short report here. [4]

Report on the Development of the Evaluation Strategies Tailored to Media Literacy and Digital Skills Intervention Programmes

This report offers an analysis of the co-development process for intervention programmes, utilising the REMEDIS Canvas framework. The framework aids in planning, refining, and adapting interventions to align with varying contextual factors across different countries. The summary captures the essence of the process, frameworks used, stakeholder engagement, intervention design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and feedback mechanisms. [8]

Co-Developing Media Literacy and Digital Skills Interventions: Report on Preliminary Results

This report presents the preliminary results of Work Package 2. WP2 focusses on materialising the partnership with local organisations by co-developing opportunities for enhancing current ML&DS interventions. [9]

Report on the Results of a Systematic Review of the Individual and Social Differentiating Factors and Outcomes of Media Literacy and Digital Skills

This systematic evidence review aimed to collect and summarise scientific evidence on effective intervention programmes related to Media Literacy and Digital Skills (ML&DS). Through a comprehensive search across major scientific databases and rigorous screening and coding processes, we identified 248 studies investigating ML&DS intervention effectiveness and associated outcomes. In this report, we have presented findings related to the theoretical frameworks guiding these studies, the reported outcomes, and potential influencing factors on intervention effects. [10]

Analysing Intervention Programmes: Barriers and Success Factors. A Systematic Review

The analyses of research into media literacy and digital skills (ML&DS) interventions presented in this report, offer valuable insights into the characteristics, challenges, and factors of success for these interventions in diverse contexts and for a range of outcomes [11]
