Data driven decision making at Tesco

Abstract: Data Science means many different things to different people and organisations. It can mean anything from re-packaging traditional descriptive and diagnostic business analytics all the way to developing cutting edge applications which drive predictive and prescriptive analytics. In this talk we will discuss what Data Science means at Tesco and how Data Science is being applied to support and automate decision making in one of the worlds largest retail organisations.

Bio: Robert is Director of Data Science at Tesco and is responsible for leading the core Data Science function. The team comprises a number of technical disciplines including Machine Learning and AI, Operational Research, Statistics and Simulation and is focused on driving the development of algorithmic solutions to support and automate decision making across the organisation. Prior to working in Retail, Robert has experience of leveraging data to drive business change within the Telco and High Tech industries from his time at Vodafone, Virgin Media, Symantec and Veritas.
