Dr Jonathan Fisher KC – Fraud Offences in the Digital Age
Senior Fellow Dr Jonathan Fisher KC’s Independent Review on Fraud Offences has been published.
The Review makes 47 recommendations, covering the detection, investigation, prosecution and sentencing of offenders in fraud cases. More than 40% of criminal cases in the UK concern some aspect of fraudulent conduct, of which 70% involve digital activity.
The Government has announced in its Global Fraud Strategy 2026 – 29 that it will carefully consider Dr Fisher’s findings and recommendations which will help shape a more adaptive, agile and future-focused response to the changing methods and scale of fraud.
As regards the earlier review, Disclosure in the Digital Age, the Government has indicated in its Response that it accepts most of Dr Fisher’s recommendations and pilot schemes are planned.
