Dr Chris O'Meara, LSE Fellow in the Department of Law, recently contributed to The Individualisation of War project hosted at the European University Institute in Florence. In his new paper, 'The Right of Military Personnel to Self-Defence: Challenging the State-Based Approach to the Jus ad Bellum', he challenges the state-centric approach to the right of self-defence in international law, focusing on the role of individual military personnel and units.
