English application procedure

This guide here will help you complete the process quickly and easily

Please read through but feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Things to remember for the application form

  • Read through thoroughly the course outline and any additional information available on the programme for which you are applying.
  • Read through the terms and conditions applying to all Language Centre programmes and courses and check the information on cancellations and refunds.
  • Use our course and class registration page to find out what places are available.
  • You will need to be available to complete the whole course. Please make sure you are available for the duration of the course and that the registration dates for your main programme of study do not overlap. If they do overlap, regretably, we will not be able to accept you on the course.
  • Complete the form as fully as possible. Most fields need to be completed but you may not need to upload every file requested.
  • Give your full name as it appears on your passport.
  • Our Presessional programme is only available to LSE postgraduate applicants.
  • Give a daytime (GMT) telephone number in case we need to contact you to ask you about your application.
  • Give as much information as possible about any learning difficulties or special medical needs you may have.

File uploads

  • Upload a current photograph and copies of any language certificates used in support of your application. This should be a JPEG file.
  • Keep any attachment size to less than 3MB. In some cases when a form is submitted with files larger than 3MB the form will not reach us and no error message will be displayed.
  • Keep the total size for your attachments to less than 9MB.
  • Please be patient and let the form 'submit' once you press the button, do not navigate away too quickly.
  • Please use 'English' script and try not to cut and paste into the fields.
  • Upload a copy of your most recent language certificate (if you have one) i.e. IELTS or TOEFL.
  • Please read our Frequently Asked Questions and Help especially the section about Secure English Language Tests (SELT) and that you might need a UKVI IELTS.
  • Upload your LSE offer letter.

What happens next?

  • In some cases we might contact you to arrange an interview. If so this will be conducted on Zoom or Teams. After this, usually within 1 or 2 days, we will communicate to you via email the result of this interview and either offer you a place or explain why we were not able to this time.
  • In most cases we will review your application based on the information you have submitted and be able to communicate to you whether or not we have a place on the course we can offer to you.
  • If we are able to offer you a place then we will also send you a link with instructions on how to accept and pay your course fee.
  • Following this you will receive confirmation from us of your place.
  • At any stage in the process please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
