Decentering Emissions: How the developing world can shape the climate change agenda

Hosted by the Department of International Relations and the Global School of Sustainability at LSE
In-person public event (Old Theatre, Old Building)
Wednesday 21 January 2026 6.30pm - 8pm

Our collective climate future is likely to be shaped by the development choices made by the vast majority of people in the developing world. Yet, the global climate policy conversation seldom asks what it would take for the Global South to align development with low-carbon and resilient futures.

This talk will explore the intersection of climate and development. It will examine different forms of national climate politics, how they intersect with development futures, and explore whether and how development choices can internalise climate concerns.

Meet our speaker

Navroz K Dubash is a Professor of Public and International Affairs and the High Meadows Environmental Institute at Princeton University, and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Sustainable Futures Collaborative, New Delhi, which he helped co-found. His work examines national and global climate governance, the political economy of energy transitions, and air quality. Navroz is Co-Editor in Chief of Climate Policy Journal, member of the steering group of the UNEP Emissions Gap Report, and has been part of the author group of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. He has also advised the Indian government on climate change, energy, and air and water policy over the last fifteen years. Early in his career, Navroz helped establish the global Climate Action Network as its first international coordinator.
