Dr Dimitrios Stroikos is Head of the Space Policy Project at LSE IDEAS, and Editor of Space Policy, an international and interdisciplinary journal hosted at LSE IDEAS. Space Policy draws on the fields of international relations, economics, history, aerospace studies, security studies, development studies, political science and ethics to provide discussion and analysis of space activities in their political, economic, industrial, legal, cultural and social contexts.
From November 2025, Dimitrios is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Bologna, Italy, where his research focuses on the European Union’s Space Strategy for Security and Defence. He is also affiliated with the China Program at the Institute of International Relations (IDIS) in Greece.
Dimitrios’ research interests cover the global politics of outer space activities, space policy and space security, with particular reference to China and India as space powers, Europe–China relations, Indo-Pacific security, and technology and international relations. His research has appeared in such publications as Astropolitics, India Review, International Politics, Journal of Contemporary China, Review of International Studies, and Space Policy. He is also co-editor of the open-access volume Rising Power, Limited Influence: The Politics of Chinese Investments in Europe and the Liberal International Order (Oxford University Press, 2024).
Dimitrios holds a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an MSc in Modern Chinese Studies (University of Oxford, UK), a Master in International Relations (University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, Greece) and a first degree in Politics (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece). From 2021 to 2024, he was a Fellow in the Department of International Relations at LSE. Prior to that, he was Associate Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of York and Editor of Millennium: Journal of International Studies.
In 2016, Dimitrios received the English School Award for Outstanding Research Paper by a Younger Scholar from the International Studies Association (ISA) English School Section for his paper “International Society in Orbit: Reconceptualizing Order on the Higher Frontier.” In 2024, he was awarded the LSE Class Teacher Award in recognition of his exceptional contribution to teaching.
