At the 12th WTO Ministerial, agreement was reached on launching a process of WTO reform. The war of aggression in Ukraine and growing US/China tensions provide a challenging geopolitical context with some referring to a new era of “deglobalisation” or calling for a new trading system based on close cooperation amongst allies.
The talk will aim at offering an overall perspective on how the global trading system can be adapted to respond to the new geopolitical context as well as the transformations of the world economy. It will look into the implications both for European trade policy and the agenda of WTO reform.
