Global Sustainability Research Fund launches second round

Monday 27 October 2025

The second round of LSE's world-leading Global Sustainability Research Fund (GSRF) is now open for submissions. The GSRF is the School's flagship research fund for ambitious, creative, and impactful sustainability research activities.

Building on the success of the inaugural round, the GSRF supports projects that generate new knowledge, pioneer novel applications of research, and strengthen engagement with policymakers, industry, and the wider public. It reflects LSE’s commitment to fostering collaboration across disciplines and driving innovative solutions to the global sustainability challenge through the Global School of Sustainability at LSE.

The Fund is aligned with the five research themes of the Global School of Sustainability:

As a seed fund, the GSRF aims to support projects with the potential to scale and generate wider impact. For this round, the GSRF is particularly encouraging applications that are aligned with the theme, "Mobilising political, legal, and governance systems".

Up to £1,000,000 will be available through the 2025–26 scheme, with projects able to apply for £15,000–£60,000 for up to 24 months. Applications open in the Winter Term and close at 5pm on Friday 13 February 2026, with outcomes announced from Monday 6 April 2026.

The GSRF is open to LSE Faculty, Research and Policy Staff, and Fellows, and is designed to strengthen LSE’s position as a global leader in sustainability-focused social science.
